Driving through downtown Buffalo, it’s hard to miss the bright red trim and unmistakable Irish charm spilling onto Franklin Street. Step inside, and you will quickly realize The Banshee Irish Pub is more than just a bar – it’s a gathering place.

Co-owner Conor Hawkins transformed the former D’Arcy McGee’s into The Banshee in 2021. On any given day, you’ll find early-morning soccer fans packed in to watch European clubs, theatergoers stopping by before a show at Shea’s, visiting NHL players unwinding after games, and strangers becoming regulars over pints and traditional Irish comfort food. What was once a familiar spot has grown into something bigger – a cornerstone of Buffalo’s rising soccer culture.

“I fell in love with Buffalo and now have been here for more than 25 years.”
Originally from Belfast, Ireland, Conor moved to Buffalo over two decades ago and built his career working in local hotels and bars. While he embraced the city and its people, he missed the soccer culture he grew up with, where the game was woven into everyday life. When D’Arcy McGee’s went on the market, Conor saw his opportunity to bring that feeling home.
Today, The Banshee reflects that vision. Matches from leagues around the world fill the screens, and everyone is welcome – lifelong supporters, first-time fans, and anyone willing to pull up a chair and share a pint. Conor is especially excited about what Buffalo Pro Soccer will bring to the city and hopes The Banshee becomes a home base for supporters on matchdays.
Soccer, in Connor’s eyes, builds community, creates memories, and gives Buffalo yet another reason to come together. If you’re looking for a place to watch, celebrate, and party with fellow fans, you’ll find Conor – and the heart of Buffalo soccer culture – at The Banshee.
